Emotional regulation is managing emotions, feelings, and moods effectively. It’s a skill that helps us attune our emotional responses to our current context, especially in times of emotional distress.
Emotional regulation helps also prevent aggressive reactions and depressive moods that could be detrimental and even dangerous to ourselves and others. Poor attachment, exposure to trauma, and adverse experiences can interfere with adults’ capacity to regulate emotions and children’s capacity to learn this skill. Lack of emotional regulation causes difficulties coping with stressful situations, cultivating relationships, and communicating well with others. And it usually leads to reacting with outbursts of negative emotions and ego-centric behavior to emotional distress.
These three one-hour webinars teach emotional regulation skills in three critical tasks in social interaction that can lead to feeling better by experiencing improvement in self-concept, personal relationships, and mental health.
