Terry Crews, ESPN and Cathy Friedman to be honored at Peace Over Violence’s An Evening Over Violence on October 11, 2018

LOS ANGELES (October 8, 2018) -- Peace Over Violence (POV) will hold An Evening Over Violence on Thursday, October 11th at the NoMad Los Angeles from 6pm to 9pm (Red Carpet/Media Coverage from 5pm to 6:30pm).

The event will honor:

  • ESPN for The ESPYS and The Arthur Ashe Award for Courage, with the Impact Over Violence Humanitarian Award; presented by Tiffany Thomas Lopez, survivor and athlete

  • Terry Crews, actor and high-end furniture designer, human rights activist and survivor with the Voice Over Violence Humanitarian Award; presented by Steve LePore, Founder & Executive Director of 1in6

  • Cathy Friedman, POV Associate Director with the Legacy Over Violence Humanitarian Award

“The honorees this year have gone above and beyond to show survivors that they are believed and they are supported. The variety of ways that they have been able to make this happen are incredible. Whether it be writing a grant for legal advocacy, calling out toxic masculinity on the Senate floor, or inviting 141 survivors to be honored for their courage,” explains Patti Giggans, POV Executive Director.

Survivors across the country are reaching out for support given our current political and social climate. As one of the first sexual and domestic violence agencies in the country, Peace Over Violence knows how critical free and accessible resources for survivors are. “Our hotline calls have gone up 90% in the last month, and 50% in the last week. This is an opportunity to support POV because we not only advocate for and believe survivors, but we also create space for healing” said Giggans. Peace Over Violence will commemorate its 47th year providing critical services and programs and honoring influencers in the movement to end sexual and domestic violence. “At An Evening Over Violence, we will honor the survivors in our lives, the millions who have received support from POV, the youth who continue to lead us from the violence they've inherited, and, each of you as our community allies and advocates,” Giggans continues.

Sponsors of An Evening Over Violence, supporting the healing and transformative work of Peace Over Violence are: ESPN, Kaiser Permanente, Pam Palmer & Elaine Tumonis, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, LA Metro, 21st Century Fox, Artivist Entertainment, The California Wellness Foundation, Duffy Kruspodin, Friedman Renov Family & Friends, Jehan Agrama and Dwora Fried, Michelle Santucci, Nakatomi & Associates, LA City Councilmember David Ryu, Dawn Bey & Christina Mauro, Frank and Inez Quevedo, L.A.
